Therapies Offered
I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), yoga inspired mindfulness and guided meditation, and yoga inspired mind-body connect work in my therapeutic practice. All of my work is from a highly compassionate, trauma informed lens.

CBT is an evidenced-based practice that helps to identify negative thought patterns and behaviors which contribute to emotional distress. During pregnancy, parenting, and grief, thoughts have a tendency to spiral, and intensify emotional experiences. The "what ifs" and "if onlys" can be torturous and self-destructive. CBT is a helpful tool to identify and change unhelpful thought patterns.

DBT is an evidence-based practice grown from a CBT foundation. It is helpful in managing intense emotional distress, reducing harmful behaviors, and promoting overall stability. It's focus on grounding techniques and practical skill building can be extremely helpful during the chaos of pregnancy, parenting a newborn. managing in NICU experience, or grieving the loss of a pregnancy or infant loss.

Mindfulness and meditation approaches have long been demonstrated to promote both emotional and physical health. However, many find mindfulness and meditation activities intimidating or inaccessible. For many years, I was one of those people. After my son died, however, I discovered through yoga that I had been approaching the concepts incorrectly. While I thought I was "doing it wrong" because I could never "clear my mind," I now realize it's not about "clearing" but rather "connecting." I utilize the same principles to help clients regain a sense of internal balance during their perinatal journey.

Similar to mindfulness and meditation, I long believed that "mind-body work" was not for me. Again, following the death of my son, it was yoga that helped me realize my approach was simply incorrect. Yoga principles helped me identify where my body held my emotional distress and how to release it.
Additionally, for birthing parents pregnancy and delivery is inherently a physical experiences. Mind-body work can help you learn to live in your new body.
For parents who have experienced a loss, mind-body can also address feelings about the body including resentment, failure, detachment, or disgust.
